Shape Up

Today's outline is either a US state or a country, and you don't know which. Guess it in 6 tries. Every miss tells you how far away you are and unlocks a hint.

Outlines are drawn north-up and scaled to fit, so sizes are not comparable. Far-off islands and territories are left out. Map data: Natural Earth and the US Census.

    How to play Shape Up

    1. You see the outline of a mystery place. It could be a US state or a country.
    2. Type your guess. You have 6 tries.
    3. Every miss tells you how far away your guess is and unlocks a new hint: what it is and where, its size, a neighbor, its capital, then its first letter.
    4. Solve it, then share your result.

    Questions

    Is it like Worldle?

Yes, it's a shape-guessing game in the same spirit, but the answer might be a US state or a country, so the first thing to work out is which.

Why do some shapes look bigger than others?

Each outline is scaled to fit the box, so sizes aren't comparable. Use the size hint instead.

    Is it free?

Yes. All six What The Geo games are free to play in your browser, with no account or download.

When is there a new puzzle?

Every day at midnight, your local time. Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same date.

Where are my streak and stats saved?

On your own device, in your browser. Nothing is sent to us, so clearing your browser data resets them.
